Coombe Bissett Down has habitats that are rare both nationally and globally. Wiltshire Wildlife Trust have been awarded an £814,000 National Lottery grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to purchase 34.5ha of land next to their existing nature reserve. This will double the size of the reserve and enable them to restore this important block of chalk grassland.

Ashley will touch on the history of chalk grassland and Coombe Bissett, and then focus on some of the rare and special species found there. She will then go on to talk about a previous arable reversion project and then lastly about the new extension and restoration plans and how people can get involved.

Wiltshire Wildlife provide more information on the reserve including a map and things to look out for (such as the beautiful Adonis Blue butterfly shown, left).
