Professor Philip Howse has published several books and numerous research articles on insect behaviour and ecology. He has developed novel environmentally-friendly methods of control of insect pests. After a career spent mainly at the University of Southampton during which he travelled widely setting up projects for the control of tropical insect pests, he has now retired but continues writing about insects. In his talk Prof Howse may help us understand the messages that are being sent out by the colours, patterns and designs on the wings of butterflies.
