The top-quark mass is a fundamental parameter of the standard Model, as it helped to constrain the Higgs mass even before its discovery and plays a role in any statement on the stability of our universe.
Therefore, a reliable estimate of the error in its determination is of paramount importance.
In this talk, the main sources of theoretical uncertainties in the top mass extraction at the LHC will be discussed, paying special attention to bottom-quark fragmentation in top decays and in the interpretation of the measurements, based on Monte Carlo event generators, in terms of well-posed definitions like the pole mass.
