Cement,
the typical binder in concrete,
is responsible for approximately 2 2
Billion Metric Tonnes of CO 2 emissions
every year The tailored reinforced
concrete infrastructure project aims to
reduce the overall cement content and
associated embodied CO 2 of concrete
elements whilst preserving their
strength and durability performance
This talk introduces tailored concrete in
a durability context, with focus on
improving performance in harsh
exposure conditions without increasing
cement content dramatically and
summarises the work carried out so far
in accelerated carbonation of layered
concrete specimens
