In recent years, the LHC has been turned into an impressive precision machine by experiment and by theory. For Higgs physics, effective theories have been established as the appropriate framework to describe experimental searches for non-standard effects. In addition to their generality they also account for effects from well-known extended Higgs and gauge sectors. I will show recent results from Run II and discuss their impact and limitations. Finally, I will discuss future analysis strategies relevant for Higgs physics at the LHC.
